How to refresh stinky laundry

We’ve all been there.  You throw in a load of laundry, leave the house or get busy throughout the day, and that poor lonely load of wash is left in the washer.  You forgot to switch it over to the dryer in time and now that dreaded mildew smell has set in.  Tell me I’m not the only one who has washed the same load of laundry multiple times in a row.

I’ve greatly reduced my chances of this happening by establishing a daily routine/habit and washing just one load a day, but every once in a while, I still forget.  If you’ve ever done this before you know the load has to be rewashed.  There’s just no way around it unless you want to avoid your friends and co-workers because they won’t want to be around you while you’re wreaking of mildew.

Often just rewashing doesn’t cut the smell though and more has to be done to refresh stinky laundry.  Here’s what I do and it works well for me.

How to Refresh Stinky Laundry

Add detergent to your washer as normal.

Measure 1/2 cup white vinegar.

Pour into the fabric softener area of the washing machine.

Vinegar and lavender oil in the washer helps refresh stinky laundry.

Wash as normal and dry immediately after finished.

That’s it!  Pretty easy and non-toxic.  No yucky dryer sheets and artificial fragrances.

Do you have a tried and true way to refresh stinky laundry?
